Frustrated frequent user.

Autozone confirmed to me that the design has recently changed. The top one in the photo is old, two months old. The bottom is new. From 8 to 5 holes. The thick O-ring becomes round and narrow. The sealed protective film on the filter has disappeared, which means dirt can get there during transport. I have been using this filter in a racing application for many years. Never thought this would come with K&N.

Pros
  • Ideal for outdoor activities
Cons
  • Protection

The best you can buy.

If you change your oil yourself, don't make the crucial mistake of skimping on a filter. Today's high-speed engines have higher internal pressure that can destroy a cheap filter. Many car manufacturers warn that using a cheap oil filter will void your warranty (e.g. KIA). I have used K&N filters on all my vehicles for many years and have never had a problem. Don't make the mistake of stopping the engine trying to save a few bucks on an oil filter. Serious.

Pros
  • Pretty impressive

  • So far so good

Higher flow rate and better filtration!

I started using K&N oil filters a few months ago, I started using the HP-1004 on my Mitsubishi 3000GT and have noticed a nice difference in oil pressure and when looking in the valve cover I could tell there was more oil flow to the top of the engine than before when using FRAM filters! I've also found that my oil stays cleaner longer, which makes a big difference on cold starts. I also really like the 1 inch nut on the bottom of the filter, it makes life a lot easier! I now ONLY use K&N oilโ€ฆ

Keep up to date with production changes

I used to use them exclusively on my Honda S2000 but I don't think I'll be buying more from Revain. Both filters were purchased from Revain, both are HP 1004 filters but the plates are completely different. Logic dictates that the more holes there are, the more oil can flow through the filter if needed without entering the bypass. If I buy from a store I can take the filter out of the box and make sure it has eight holes before I buy it. Is it important? Maybe not, but I see no reason to saveโ€ฆ

Good for off-the-beaten-track places

K&N are quality filters, but they probably aren't the best for most drivers. On some engines, the filter fits very tightly or very unusually. This is where a 1" nut on a jerry can saves a lot of time. If you change your own oil and have a couple of cars like mine with an odd layout, the $3-$4 extra is worth it. Then you don't have to pay 4 keep various mugs and filter lanyards in your tool box, just use a cheap 1" combo filter. The filter on my 6.0 liter Silverado is recessed, so the strapโ€ฆ

I love K&N products

(Used on Subaru WRX 2018) First time using this one so I can't really say how much better it is than Subaru's OEM oil filters but I will a few give thoughts. At first I thought I had an older white version (which is fine) but as I read the comments I saw that a lot of people got a different version than the one I got. The one I received must have been "good"; not rusty or dusty, with the number of filter holes indicated on the page and the rubber seal intact. I actually went to the trouble ofโ€ฆ

this filter has 2 different manufacturers

so i ordered this filter several times and sometimes i got it in the usa and sometimes in mexico. The main differences I found. box) has 8 holes instead of 5 The filter always comes wrapped in plastic The oil interval sticker is included in the box Made in USA (left filter and left box) Only 5 oil feed holes Not in the Amazon plastic packaging The oil interval sticker is directly on the filter box as in the picture shown. In general, the packaging carton is designed differently if you lookโ€ฆ

KN changed its design to HP1004 type oil filter.

I've been using KN on my WRX 2017 since I bought the car and it has exceeded my expectations for an oil filter. I have to say I was unpleasantly surprised when I bought it again for 5,000 change and got a different style. BTW, just to be safe, I switched to PBL14461 PurolatorBOSS oil filter for the WRX. I've added photos of the old KN filter versus the new one. To be honest I can't say if this style change is a good or bad thing, but some of you might want to see the differences. Note. I called
