As I already own numerous Tecsun radios, I can speak authoritatively about this particular model. This receiver's predecessor, the Tecsun PL-390, was much better than the 398th. One) The stereo is fantastic, but the sound quality is much better at 390. The 398th awful stereo. In my defense, I'll point out that this is the only stereo receiver now available. 2) Greater size, greater thickness, and greater size overall. If the MP3 player is to blame, then it can only be considered a negative development. They didn't implement the "RESET" button found on more expensive Tecsun models, which prevents the 390 and 398 from freezing up and requiring the removal of the batteries. 4) The 18650 battery used in newer Tecsun models is not compatible with these three AA batteries, which are neither here nor there. 5. The MP3 player is extremely rudimentary and unnecessary in this context. 6) PL390 was a significant improvement over its forerunner, the PL380, but it lacked MP3 and was eventually taken off the market. The receiver is great overall, with a few minor limitations and many advantages. In contrast to the other models from this manufacturer, this one includes two powerful speakers and MP3 compatibility. Choose this Tecsun receiver if you have even a passing interest in radio. If the price tag is too much and you don't require MP3 and 2 speakers, the PL-310et and PL-606 are both good alternatives from Tecsun. They are easier to assemble, cheaper, and don't hang, all while being smaller in size.
