Description of 📸 Sigma DP-1 Merrill Digital Camera: 46MP FOVEON X3 Sensor & 19mm f/2.8 Lens

Foveon X3 Merrill Sensor: The Foveon X3 direct image sensor captures all primary RGB colors at each and every pixel location with 3 layers, ensuring the capture of full and complete color. Since color moire is not generated, the use of a low-pass filter is not required, meaning light and color are captured by the sensor with a 3-Dimensional feel. Dual TRUE II Engine: The dual TRUE (Three-layer Responsive Ultimate Engine) II image processing engine dedicated to Foveon X3 direct image sensors improves the processing speed and overall quality of the final image. Exclusively Designed 19mm F2.8 lens: The high-performance 19mm F2.8 lens has the equivalent angle of view of a 28mm (35mm equivalent focal length) lens as has been designed exclusively for the SIGMA DP1 Merrill to maximizes the sensor performance. Advanced User Interface: The custom quick set menu and the metallic command dial are incorporated to improve usability. The diaphragm, shutter speed and menu can be changed quickly using the command dial. It allows photographers to change the menu content and the order depending on their preferences.

Hidden Gem! in Camera & Photo

If you're willing to put up with slow shooting and processing (both in and out of camera) and limited battery life (100 photos if you're on a budget), this is it the case small camera can deliver excellent performance. I couldn't believe how much more detail it had compared to my DSLR with a similar 20mm f/1.8 prime lens.

Holy insane determination, Batman!

I did a lot of research and waited for the price to drop before jumping to this one. I'm so glad I did. The long recording times and the bulky Sigma Photo Pro are fine with me. Needless to say though: buy extra batteries. Even OOC-JPEGs rival (exceed?) the IQ of my Sony A7, at least in daylight. Of course, I'm not expecting miracles in low light, judging by other reviews. But for the price this is a fantastic product for daytime landscape or street photography. Foveon X3 FTW!

Very good camera for the price

Very good camera for the price. Yes, it's difficult to work with, and to get the best photos out of it (which are just amazing) you need the right conditions. The camera is larger than IS0 200, the lack of an optical viewfinder takes some getting used to, the battery life is abysmal. But the images that come out of this camera rival those of significantly more expensive cameras. This camera makes sense (more so than the other two Merrill DP models) because you need high megapixels for landscape

Small powerful camera

Who needs it? anyone who needs a backup camera with a large DSLR. It has the perfect depth for a good landscape camera. As others have said, it's terrible in low light, longer exposure times, poor battery life, poor playback time of a freshly captured image. Sigma even offers an extra battery for weak battery life. A fast SD card doesn't seem to help. This may be because each of the files is huge and the Foveon sensor does a lot of on-camera processing; TIFF is typically around 100MB (a rough…

Simply put - BEST IQ!

Anyone who has dealt with small cameras with large sensors knows that they all have their advantages and disadvantages. I was only interested in the best IQ at base ISO. That's it . Ergonomics, size, autofocus speed, buffer clearing, LCD daylight readability. IQ, IQ, IQ - tones, natural colors, subtle gradations, excellent monochrome conversion etc.! My goal is to always have a camera with me for fine art, stock photography and many other personal photo shoots. I already have a Sony Experia Z…

Great camera for focused work, less good for photography or action

Great camera for my needs beyond artistic photography:1. Compact, solid build quality 2. very high image quality (on par with MF film)3. Profitability Cons: 1. Clumsy operating system and very slow image processing (30 seconds per image, 8 image buffers).2. Main lens, non-removable (silver lining: never dust problem).3. poor low light performance/high ASA, poor low light autofocus.4. a very strange highlight pattern that I might try to turn into something artistic. bad battery life. Game Changer - Point and Shoot Digital Cameras

I had a Nikon D200 with lots of lenses and a Nikon Coolpix P7700. Coolpix shoots better than D200. Getting a Nikon DSLR with the quality I wanted would have cost me thousands of dollars that I can't afford. So I had two plans: * In Plan A, I would sell all my DSLR gear, buy a Merrill DP-1, and make $1,000. In this scenario, I would keep the Coolpix as a regular camera when I want to take family photos and use the Sigma for landscape and other outdoor photography.* In Plan B, I would sell all my
