Very good, very accurate

I bought this meter to record aircraft noise over our house in preparation for a lawsuit. It was accurate. It's useful to be able to see the audio level fluctuations, but I particularly like the button that lets you see only the maximum as the level increases. This meter is inexpensive and much more accurate than the sound meter in the phone app. I tested my phone app alongside this meter and my phone was often 20dB higher than the meter. Common sense told me that overhead planes weren't 95…

Pros
  • Highly rated by testers for grip and durability
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Good sound level meter at a low price - good value for money

For the most part I am completely satisfied with this sound level meter. The instruction manual states that the accuracy is no more than 3.5 decibels and no less than 3.5 decibels. This sound level meter may not always be accurate, but it is a very good indicator. I used it with up to 30 decibel noise canceling headphones at a few live music gigs before work and found that most readings at the gigs I worked on were typically between 96 and 98 decibels with a maximum of 104, A Rick Ross concert…

Looks accurate - very cheap decibel meter

I don't have a better meter to lay around and check accuracy; However, it's very consistent for things I measure frequently and for items I have in previous manufacturer specs. It has the lowest reading level of 30dBA. I wish it was lower, but 95% of the scenarios would be unnecessary as most rooms have "quiet" background noise above 30dBA. However, in a well-soundproofed room, it can be a good idea to accurately measure a few things (e.g. PC fans). I bought this primarily to test the noise…

Great product in a small package

I used to do professional sound reinforcement for live theater. I retired and sold all my gear. I moved to an active 55+ community where they do a lot of live shows and I joined an audio group. We have just renovated our theater and unfortunately the authorities have installed a glass technical booth. Of course we don't hear anything live and I was forced to install a monitor speaker. Now the only reference of what's being transmitted into the home isn't the combination of live and amplified…

I had 3 mini digital sound level meters from CEM. One of the minis died due to my pup thinking it was for her but still worked after a good chew. And another one who got hit by a car when the meter fell off my truck. The CEM meter, abuse aside, is a fantastic gauge. I needed a meter to document noise in a court case so I wanted something that could be calibrated so I got a Reed ST-8050 Sound Level Meter that can be calibrated. After testing both gauges in parallel, I found that the Mini…

Sensitive and met my needs very well!

I have used this little bug to set up my recording room where I practice acoustic guitar/vocals several hours a day. I was treating a room with sound deadening/sound absorbing materials and wanted to get comparative readings inside and outside the room and at various other points related to the room. This device has been incredibly handy in this process. (I can't speak to accuracy as I don't have any professionally calibrated devices to compare it to. However, I can say that all the readings I…
