Review on ๐ŸŽธ PlayStation 3 Rock Band 3 Wireless Fender Mustang PRO-Guitar Controller by Jonathan Sanders

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great game controller. Need better documentation

I ordered a Fender Mustang-PRO guitar because it is now available at a reasonable price. While the MSRP of $150 was too high, the $70 I paid (including shipping) is much more reasonable. Rock Band 3 becomes a completely different game with this controller. I'm not a guitarist so I'm a slow learner. Luckily, the game has some very good tutorial modes, and the songs are just one note at a simple level. Once I'm comfortable with it, I can start learning chords knowing that the skills I've developed through playing will be applicable to a real guitar should I decide to buy one in the future. My only complaint is that Mad Catz doesn't provide all the documentation that they claim to do. The controller includes a MIDI port, and the included documentation includes a URL where you can download the MIDI manual. Unfortunately, this guide is not available and never seems to have been. Luckily, many web searches eventually turned up a PDF copy of an early draft - I'm guessing Mad Catz never finished writing it! I don't know if I will use this controller as a MIDI instrument or not (I have keyboards). I can plug it in (though I think I'd rather buy a real guitar if I want to play outside of the game) but it worries me that a similar feature they advertise on the box is almost entirely undocumented.

Pros
  • So far so good
Cons
  • Will write later
