Review on FS-24 Steel Professional Framing Square Review & Features: 24"x16" Length Square for Accurate Measurements by Tim Surridge

3/16th of the square in measure and layout tools

I spent extra money to get a framing square from a reputable company. However, when I used it today to level a 4 x 2 x 2 foot box during assembly, I later found that the bottom of the box would not fit in the tabs. I figured that maybe the sides and ends of the box were pulled out of square during the gluing and fastening process, but I ended up finding that the Starrett square was 3/16 inch smaller. What a pain to take it apart and then put it back together again! Luckily I used Titebond III which takes a while to cure. I checked the square, hammered the inside corner with a metal punch (my square was less than 90 degrees and needed to be straightened) and checked again. I ended up with a 90 degree square, but I'm sorry I didn't check the accuracy before I started my project. When I get a chance I'll post an image of the first lines I drew to test the square for accuracy.
