Review on Durpower Phonograph Turntable Technica ATN112EP by Jacob Ferrarini

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very important!

I recently bought (for little money) a Technics SL-Q200 turntable (on the ubiquitous online auction site) on the recommendation of Revain, who had a review suggesting that an old used turntable was a better choice (MUCH better specifications). than even much more expensive simple "audiophile" turntables. His review was about a new USB turntable with a belt drive and fixed magnetic cartridge, while it was fine it wasn't even close to the quality of what's available, if you know what you're looking for take a close look and be careful, there have been bad deals!) This stylus was intended to replace a broken Audio Technica AT112EP (T4P P-Mount) pickup stylus, which came with a used Technics turntable I was familiar with There was a cartridge but a stylus was required. My first search turned up 2 other very similar replacement pens but for a lot more so I decided to try THIS one. It turned out MUCH better than expected! It arrived way earlier than I expected and was packaged in a sturdy little clear plastic box (I didn't think anyone else would use them anymore, just those horrible bubble bags). Unfortunately, apart from the tracking, no specs were given, which would of course be 1.0 to 1.5 grams for a P-mount. I don't know if this pen has an elliptical or conical tip. I believe my original AT cartridge was elliptical, given the "E" in the name. The item pictured on the product page has a capital E, but I did not receive it. Unimportant. It fits PERFECTLY and SOUNDS GREAT! I had about 50 hours of pure listening pleasure, playing some of my old LPs that haven't been played in years (played on a Technics SL-Q2 with a Shure V-15 II pickup) and listening to finds from excellent second hand treasure suppliers (Goodwill , Savers Mart, Salvation Army). I always thought vinyl was so thin, but it turns out to be much stronger and more durable than I ever imagined. If old records are well prepped with a brush and windshield washer fluid (ONE drop of dish soap/dishwashing liquid and 16 ounces of DISTILLED water (which the air dryer collects in its bowl) is played with this stylus), they sound absolutely amazing! If you need to replace an old cartridge to make it suitable again, you will not be disappointed (if your expectations are not unreasonable given the cost). Happy spinning!
