Review on 84 Tooth Locking Flex Head Teardrop Ratchet Set - GEARWRENCH 3 Piece With 1/4", 3/8" And 1/2" Drive - Model 81276A-07 by Adan Hudson

Professional quality. Well almost.

I bought this set to fill a need for extending reach to places I can't fit a fist. The 1/4" drive is strong, comfortable, and confident feeling in your hand. The 3/8" drive long handle ratchet I want to give to the scrap metal guy. It's not the most slim head. The direction lever is the same size as the 1/4" drive. If you try to use the ratchet quickly, it will change direction on its own. I don't need a tool that slows me down. The 1/2" drive ratchet is stout and nearly as long as the EZ-Red, Snap-On, and Pittsburg units. It also shares the same size direction lever as the 1/4" unit. It also will change directions on its own. I'm not as bothered by it on the 1/2" drive because I'm normally pulling through heavier tasks and not quickly flicking the handle back and forth like the 3/8" drive. The shorter 3/8" is probably the least practical ratchet I've ever owned. The head is the same length as the long handle unit and just as thick as well. The hinged head feels out of place with the length of the handle. It doesn't fit naturally into tight places and doesn't produce as much torque as standard length Pittsburg ratchet. It has no identifiable place to be utilized outside of a loaner or a leave it in the trunk just in case tool. For the money I feel you'd do better to by the comparable EZ-Red or Pittsburg units if you're going to use these to make a living. The 1/4" drive is a reasonable purchase by itself.

Pros
  • They're sturdy and work as intended? You get what you pay for, and so far so good.
Cons
  • The flex head is not durable
