Review on Nobsound TPA3116 Channel Digital Amplifier by Chris Wheeler

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great deal for a tiny desktop amp for listening to files. if you want and can turn down the volume of the source

For the price, I give this thing 4 stars. I use it for close range (computer desk) and the thing can easily get too loud for that. Leaving the volume at 100% on the computer source becomes a big problem: the knob rotates in a range of about 270 degrees, and I'd say maybe 60 degrees when rotated, it's fine for my use too loud. exacerbate the problem As others have noted there is a channel imbalance issue with the potentiometer so one channel is much quieter until you turn it about 40 degrees. So yes, that would leave the volume control with such a small useful range of rotation that it would become unusable. sensible range for my setup and to try and avoid accidentally turning the knob up and instantly ruining my speakers and ears. I have 24-bit processing on my sound card, but I'm still probably losing sound quality. Anyway, this thing was $40, it's very small and light and it still sounds good for casual listening, so it's worth $40 to me! In short, if you're just looking for a tiny desktop computer amp for casual listening, and you're ready, heavily preamp the inputs going in, that's a lot. But if you plan to use it at the table and any type of preamp won't do, this amp probably isn't for you.
