Ok but not great. Installation

The device seems to be good. Build quality is excellent. Wifi is better than average. 2.4GHz is powerful and fast with good coverage in my house. % GHz is good, but over short distances the signal quality degrades quickly as you move away from the device. This is normal for 5GHz. Being an IT pro and having worked for a long time, I would say that installing it on Comcast wasn't as easy as some people think. I read a lot of reviews saying they just hook it up with coax, turn on the computer and click comcast and it was fine. For me it wasn't. 1. You need to connect the device and turn it on.2 You need to leave it setup for 5 minutes and then disconnect and wait ten seconds and reconnect.3. I had to do this 4 times on mine before it stabilized.4. Once it stabilizes. I call Comcast and the recorded voice asks me if I want to activate my device and I said yes. They say it takes up to 15 minutes, for me it took about 5.6. I disconnect after 5 minutes and reconnect after 15 seconds. Then I open the Internet and the activation screen appears. After I answered some questions, everything was fine. As soon as I did that, everything got stuck. It's been stable for about a week. Overall a good device that will save you money in the long run. Compared to my old Comcast device, this device is undoubtedly much better. After it was fully operational I went into the device software and changed a few things. I need to change the LAN IP address to a different IP so I can log into other networks. I also use an external GB switch which works better for me. Comcast has a pair of USBs in the box but they are set to a static IP and are useless to me. It's much better to have backup storage on your own network and I do that through a network switch. The router portion of this device lags behind in cost. I expected better. There is no firmware update option, no firewall options, and I expect load balancing options. To be honest, there are no-nonsense load balancing options. Personally, if I were setting up a home with more people, I would add an Engenius AC router, giving you more options and better coverage. I use one in the office and the coverage is better. In general the device is good but could be better. It's better than the Comcast box I've had, but not as good as other routers I've used. This really saves a lot of money in the long run and serves its purpose.
